When harvest season comes around each fall it reminds us of our intrinsic connection to nature. In wine country, it is a time of celebration. We take the time to show gratitude for all the bounties of nature and to spend time with friends and family enjoying these gifts of food and drink.

Our celebration was special this time because it coincided with a milestone birthday of the man who helped us build our dream home in Sonoma. Jim Milne retired to Texas soon after our home was completed . We enjoyed celebrating it all “western style” in his honor. It was a lovely warm evening at the vineyard. Guests came from far and wide to be with us and it was kind of magical. We had visitors from Texas, Canada, Argentina, Tennessee, Los Angeles and other California locations!

Country music played by song writer Michael Ahern and his boys, wood-fired food and a local saloon served up our winemaker Faith Armstrong’s white wines from “Onward” wines and of course our “QUAIL RUN” Cabernet Sauvignon among other cocktails to kick off the harvest theme.

This was our second Harvest Party. Planned ahead of time, it didn’t actually take place on the day of the grape harvest. The best moment to pick the grapes is only ever determined when all of a sudden the grapes are ready and ripe enough. Weather and seasonal influences contribute to this decision about when it’s right to pick. This time they were still hanging on. We had the pleasure of seeing the fruit and it was beautiful!
